The AI industry has long flooded the zone with propaganda for the chatbot. Signing up YouTube influencers and everything. But the public is not buying the AI promotion. Pew spoke to 3,488 adults in the US in late June as part of their regular general survey of the US population. And people are more and more worried about AI over the past five years. [Pew] Pew asked: [Pew, PDF] Overall, would you say the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) in daily life makes you feel … 52% of all adults were more concerned than excited — a new high. 37% were more excited than concerned. Young adults, ages 18-29, were 55% concerned and just 11% excited. Pew also checked the national vibe on job prospects. 71% felt AI would lead to fewer jobs over the next 20 years. Some bits of AI are more hated than others. A Gallup poll in March found 71% opposed new data centre construction in their area. [Gallup] A majority of both Democrat and Republican voters opposed new data centres in their area, but Democrats opposed them more strongly. Opposition to AI and data centres is accelerating. Heatmap polled 2,045 registered voters two weeks ago. Heatmap’s survey shows 75% opposition to new data centres. [Heatmap] The Heatmap poll shows how, in just the year since last August, Republicans dropped from 14% positive on data centres to 43% negative and Democrats from 8% negative to 75% negative. You’re on the winning side. Take heart — you’re not alone. Video — PodcastSource: Pivot to AI — Published — Category: Business
